15 Dec Floriculture weeklong training begins with project benefactors.
2024/05/01 – A week long training was successfully completed last week with key community florists. The workshop held at the HQ’s taught participants the fundamentals of propagating and maintaining their anthurium plants. These participants had hands-on experience following advice of our staff using their own anthuriums they brought to the site.

Planting mediums, soil, coconut coir and other materials were provided for while the participants were meticulously pruning back deciduous plant matter and discovering new shoots. Some of these anthuriums have been potted for years without the owners knowing its potential to multiply!

A total of 23 women participated in the workshop, 4,375 anthurium plants were present at the start of the workshop at which 9,415 plants in total were propagated – 5,040 new plants were an immediate output of this workshop.

The workshop revealed many challenges that the women faced with their plants – many had used soil mediums that were compacting and restricting growth. Many also were not aware that the plants could be multiplied and separated as they mature. One participant arrived with 38 plants and when the separation of the plants and repotting was complete ended up with over 300 plants. The workshop provided many of the participants with free coconut coir and planting bags to allow for proper draining and encourage new growth.
