17 Dec Drip irrigation systems helping MAFF during hardships.
June 23rd, 2025 – The introduction of drip irrigation technology through Pacific Grow to the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Forest citrus orchard in Haʻapai marks a significant advancement in sustainable and climate-smart agriculture. In an island setting where rainfall patterns are increasingly erratic and freshwater resources are limited, this system offers a practical and efficient solution. By delivering water slowly and directly to the base of each tree, drip irrigation minimizes evaporation and runoff, ensuring that every drop counts. Guided by Pacific Grow’s Managing Director Guy Jakobi – a full hands on training and installation took place with members of MAFF Ha’apai including our our staff as support.

In the short term, this technology will continue to support the healthy establishment of young citrus trees, boosting survival rates and promoting uniform growth. It also reduces manual labour and saves time, allowing orchard caretakers to manage resources more efficiently. Over the long term, the system will enhance overall orchard productivity—leading to higher fruit yields, better-quality citrus, and improved soil structure by avoiding overwatering and erosion.
